KaDeWe coffee maker.
Two other girls and I finally went to the Kaufhaus des Westens. (KaDeWe). It’s enormous, and gorgeous, and so very classy. The first floor had all these designer flagship stores (Fendi, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Vercase, Armani, Galliano, Valentino, eeettttcccc) A couple of guys had gone there, and they were like “uhhhh our favorite floor was the food floor. But you guys are girls, so even though we’d like to go again, we’re not gonna go with you because you’ll spend the entire time shopping.” Everything was so overpriced that we ended up spending the most time in the food floors as well.
So much chocolate and baked goods. We all gave in and each bought a piece of cake… Then traded and whatnot. It was worth it. The guys had found an impossibly expensive bottle of scotch when they went. We couldn’t find that one, but there were a bunch of really expensive drinks in a locked display case…
Won't be poppin that Henny any time soon
Tehre was actually a section for imported foods. Check out this box of imported cake mix. Can you spell ripoff? They had all these weird brands that I’ve never even seen before… or even heard of. And also an entire wall of poptarts.
Betty Crocker instant... and that's in Euros.
Americana
My absolute favorite thing ever ever.
Germans and their jelly/jam/marmelade
The final floor was this beautiful delicious looking cafeteria, where you could buy a pretty decent meal and a cup of fancy champagne, and just around. This is my idea of mall dining thank you very much. After we finished there, off to Kufurstendamn.
Ku’damn. Kufurstendamn. Didn’t even feel like Berlin anymore. The Ku’damn is this huge wide street that stretches for at least a couple of kilometers. It’s full of all these designer stores, and boutiques, and the like. We were trying to find one store, which was like 150 Kufurstendamn or so. We were at 20 on one side of the street, and like 250 on the other. Doesn’t sound that bad… but then you realize that there’s like 5 actual buildings per block. So we walked a couple of kilometers, then took the bus back.
Can you guess which countries these are? Hint: the first one is the US.
There were these awesome “World Nations Buddy Bears” or something like that are installed all along both sides of the road. We only got to see one side of the road (but they’re alphabetically arranged). I think they’re pretty cute, and it made our impossible walk a little more interesting.
We went into this bookstore, where I found this kid's book.
"The orchestra gets dressed."
There are some naked butts in that book.
I realized that I should probably go visit the church that I’m supposed to do a presentation on. It’s a memorial church for Kaiser Wilhem I, and we had actually started out right next ot it.
Can you spot the church? Yeah, I couldn't either.
However, the old chapel, the part that I had been looking out for, was under construction, and so I couldn’t distinguish it from the other construction work that was going on. Anyway, the history behind it is pretty cool, but for now I’ll just give you a photo of it.
Beautiful, right?
It’s really weird that this huge cathedral is in the middle of what is arguably one of the most capitalist areas in the city. Even weirder still is that inside what I believe is the clock tower, is not anything religious, but instead a store selling crappy world crafts. And all around the cathedral there’s fast food stands selling currywurst, crepes, bubble tea, soap, souvenirs… However, due to the design + materials that the new cathedral is made of, the moment you step in, it’s completely silent. So noisy outside, but nothing penetrates in.
Headed back home. I had a delicious meal, did some work, then went to bed.
