4 Juli-- Day 10

A dreadfully rainy day. Seriously, by the time I made it to class (late), my shoes and pants were drenched from my feet to my thighs. Walking was way too uncomfortable. After our class (we talked about the "golden 20's" and the flourish of culture during the Weimar Republic.) a couple of us decided to go to the Bode-Museum. Instead, after missing a connection, we just decided to go stay in Alexanderplatz. Seriously, we went on a whim. ("oh that church looks cool, let's go there sometime." "why don't we just go now, we don't have enough time to see the Bode-Museum really")

Our first stop was the Marienkirche. (church of st. mary's(?)). Absolutely beautiful.

Inside the Marienkirche

I think this cherub was getting physically ejected from heaven?

Then to the Berliner Dom. (Berlin Cathedral) This was actually a rather recent building (a couple hundred years old). The original was destroyed, so they built another. The inside is spectacular, and the view from the top is amazing. You can see so much, from the Museumsinsel, to the Bundestag, to the Fernsehturm (TV Tower), etc. At the bottom is a crypt where a bunch of dead nobles lie. I would have taken pictures, but dead people freak me out, and I'm not even sure if it's ethical to be taking pictures of dead people hundreds of years after they're gone. I believe there was the grave of some Friedrich or Wilhelm, or Friedrich-Wilhelm, or something to that effect. He was a pretty important dude though... I should probably know.

Note the heart carved into the grass.
This is the same grass as the grass at the bottom of the 3rd picture from the 3rd day.
That was not a good sentence.

And that was pretty much the end of the day. Had a nice dinner, did some homework (including watching a movie by Leni Riefenstahl!) (if anyone remembers, her memoir was the ~700pg long book that I lugged around all of last summer)
